8 Hours

That's right. Abigail gave both of us a birthday present last night: 8 hours of sleep. She slept conitnously, we had moments of panic, "is she breathing?!" When we realized she was fine, we were astonished, and went back to sleep. She slept for most of the day too.

We'll see how tonight goes.

Meeting up with lots of people

Abigail is six weeks old! We celebrated by meeting up with some people from Packer and then seven other babies and their mommies in the park–she was the youngest one there!

We've had an exciting week--her great grandmother's 90th birthday party where she met some family members she never met before (and said "hello" to others she had hung out with before), we saw her aunt Alyssa at the Flea, we went to the Brooklyn Museum with all of her grandparents and good friend Jackie, she was visited by good friends Natalie and Kathy and she enjoyed time snuggling up in a handmade blanket made by our Lady of Laughter, Andrea. A good week all around. Check out some of these documented events.

And, she's even slept a night in her big crib in the living room, sleeping for 5 hours straight, probably lulled to sleep by Daphne's snoring.

5th Week of Life

Some pictures of the big shot Five Week Old! You'll see she's been singing, dancing and pretending to be a lil' monkey:

Now if you've checked out the pictures you saw Abigail also loves to sleep. Except when she refuses to because she's either crying or staring at things. Her parents prefer the latter. It's wonderful to have her gaze at us and awful when she's crying, okay wailing, instead. Though we have gotten some helpful hints from the book, The Happiest Baby on the Block, it's still heartbreaking, and frustrating, to hear and see our crying child.

However she did sleep for SIX HOURS STRAIGHT three nights ago, only to have the next few nights be one where she was up every few hours (or every hour). So she gave us a little sneak peek and we enjoyed it thoroughly, anxiously awaiting another night of such felicity.

And if you ask Abigail what she prefers--taking a bath or taking a shower--she would most definitely tell you shower! Thought we could celebrate her 5th week with a nice, warm bath--wrong! She took a shower a week back with such a look of contentment as opposed to today's woeful bath. Well, it was the quickest bath in the world and we've now learned our lesson--in order for our babe to stay sweet smelling--a shower it is!

It's been one wild ride!

One month! (and much thanks)

Abigail is now one month old! Plus she's now a substantial 8 and 1/2 pounds. We're very impressed:

We celebrated by taking a walk and then coming home to take a nap. Such bliss.

We also wanted to thank the women who helped Abigail come into this world safely. Their knowledge, strength and wit made all the difference a month ago:

We are forever grateful to CBS Midwifery; Barbara Sellers who delivered Abigail and Elizabeth Boyce who didn't deliver but supported us throughout the pregnancy. These two women are phenomenal midwives.

We also could not have made it through the labor and delivery so beautifully without the guidance of Sarah Moore, our doula. She is invaluable to us--we still look to her when we are bit frazzled by this whole parenting thing.

Much thanks too to you for checking in on us and our blog. We have such loving and caring friends and family surrounding us--we cherish you!

Here are our latest pictures!

A Big Week for Abigail

Abigail turned 3-weeks-old this past Tuesday. Amanda and Abigail celebrated throughout the week. Unfortunately, the Friends of Hudson River Park Gala on Thursday kept Jonathan pretty busy. The ladies, including Daphne, went outside for several walks all together this week, and Jonathan was even able to join them for a late night (that's 8:30 for us these days) ice cream run. And, at one point during the week, Abigail's Grandpa Ken took her for a long stroll around Prospect Park.

On a more official front, Abigail's papers all came this week. Now she has a birth certificate and a social security card. Without much in the way of pockets, though, we'll likely hold on to them for her for a while. But it's nice to know that now Abigail can get a job if she wants to start earning her own money.
